What is a PSA (prostate-specific antigen) test?

A PSA test is a blood test that measures levels of prostate-specific antigen to screen for prostate health conditions and is often required before starting or continuing testosterone replacement therapy.

A prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test measures a protein produced by the prostate gland through a simple blood draw. The test screens for potential prostate health issues, including benign prostatic hyperplasia, prostatitis, and prostate cancer. PSA levels are reported in nanograms per milliliter (ng/mL), with higher levels suggesting possible abnormalities that warrant further evaluation.
