What is post-cycle therapy (PCT)?

Post-cycle therapy (PCT) is a medically supervised protocol designed to help the body restart its natural production of testosterone and other hormones after a person stops taking testosterone replacement therapy or performance-enhancing drugs.

When a person stops taking testosterone or similar hormonal agents, the body's natural production does not automatically resume at normal levels. The hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis, which controls testosterone production, can remain suppressed for weeks or months. Post-cycle therapy refers to the structured medical approach used to jumpstart this natural recovery process.

PCT typically involves medications or supplements selected to stimulate the body's own hormone-producing capacity. These may include selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs), aromatase inhibitors, or other compounds that signal the endocrine system to restore its baseline function. The specific protocol depends on the individual's prior treatment history, current hormone levels, and overall health.

Why it matters: Without proper post-cycle support, some people experience prolonged low testosterone symptoms, including fatigue, mood changes, reduced sexual function, and muscle loss. A well-designed PCT helps shorten the recovery window and protect gains made during treatment. For those using testosterone replacement therapy in Florida, fertility and urology providers can assess whether PCT is appropriate and monitor progress through follow-up blood work to ensure the HPG axis has returned to healthy function.
